On Being Original

I have had heated debates with other writers about originality. The common idea is there are only so many themes to write about. Harry Potter and Oliver Twist are the same story, or so the argument goes. While I can see similarities between multiple stories, I think originality lies in how you tell the story.

   I think if 15 (number of Scribes) writers decided to write a story based on the same idea, the result would be 15 completely different stories.The anthology, 'A Journey of Words', was based on the premise of writing a story about a journey involving a vessel to take you somewhere.     The Scribes' Circle has grown to 15 diverse and divergent writers, who can pretty much write in any genre imaginable. Horror, fantasy, sci-fi, suspense, romance, erotica, poetry, Westerns, supernatural, futuristic, military themed, you name it.
